So much for once every few days, eh? Well, its not entirely my fault. My internet was down for a few days, plus exams, then I went to Las Vegas. This will mostly comprise of that vacation, the good things anyways. I’m in a happy mood and don’t feel about ranting about the many disturbing qualities of the place.
Sin City was an experience, to say the least. My first time out of Canada, I didn’t quite know what to expect besides the horrors of US Customs (which really aren’t bad). The trip started off as many do, with me sleeping through my alarm clock, getting up late and rushing around. We flew WestJet, which is the best airline ever - and I’ll tell you why: TLC & mediocre cookies.
Anyways, Vegas. Massive. Go there, but only for a few days, you’ll either get so mad, so drunk or so dizzy that you’ll be begging for home within that time. Its insane, really, the SIZE of the place. Hotels the size of major shopping malls stacked upon each other, double-decker busses, advertising everywhere, for anything, plastic, meter long, neon margarita bottles with shoulder straps…
My favourite hotel that I visited would have to be Caesars Palace. It was obscenely huge but perfectly themed. The whole place just reminded me of a movie set. And, with my theatre techie-geek side going crazy, plus the general interest in Roman mythology – I was happy.
We went to see two shows. The first, Ice. This was absolutely mind-blowing, a mini-Ciruqe-du-Soliel on ice. They skated on STILTS and flipped each other off of teeter-totter-like contraptions and rode unicycles and spun each other around by the neck… It was like watching Olympic skating combined, gymnasts on crack with a little bit of Broadway. Not to mention the side story was pretty hilarious. Second was Mamma Mia!, which I would recommend to everyone and anyone (plus! the movie is coming out soon!).
I admit it. I am a 16-year-old ABBA fan. And proud.
The actors were fantastic, the humour perfect and the audience was great to boot. We had great sets and, yet again, I had a theatre-provoked techie-gasm. The one downside: the woman beside me was probably 50+, a die-hard ABBA fan and wouldn’t stop singing-along the entire time.
I also went to the Bodies exhibit, which was freakily disturbing, yet very cool and, again, provoked a techie-gasm due to some seriously cool lighting effects.
So, now, I leave you with an image preview of what I will bitch about later. iPod vending machines.
